Strategen works closely with our mining clients to navigate often complex environmental assessment and approval processes under Western Australian and Commonwealth legislation, and to maintain compliance and strong regulator relations throughout the entire project life cycle.
Impact assessment
Strategen develops approvals strategies up front to determine exactly what impact assessment documentation, clearing permits, mining proposals and environmental management plans are required. We also advise on the likely conditions that may apply to approved projects and prepare comprehensive management plans.
Our team is experienced in coordinating studies required for impact assessment. This includes managing sub-consultants, arranging for the peer review of environmental data and preparation of approvals documents. Strategen has prepared approval documents for small or large-scale mining projects including gold, mineral sands, bauxite, copper, tantalum, uranium and iron ore (hematite and magnetite).
Strategen has negotiated approval for many projects including where projects involve “controlled actions” under Commonwealth legislation. Often this involves the development of innovative management, mitigation and offset strategies. We also prepare environmental induction and awareness packages for Commonwealth approval.
In addition to impact assessments, we prepare mining proposals, plans of work and applications for works approvals, environmental and water licences, bed and banks permits and development approvals for our clients, and also prepare annual environmental reports, due diligence reports and calculations of mining securities.
Strategen has in-house expertise in on-ground rehabilitation projects and ecosystem surveys.
Management and compliance
Strategen develops Environmental Management Systems, including environmental risk registers. We develop environmental management plans, programmes and systems often in conjunction with approval documentation, to address all potential environmental impacts and risks associated with mining. We also develop closure and rehabilitation plans and construction environmental management plans.
Strategen has accredited auditors and lead auditors and is capable of undertaking audits of conditions, commitments, management plans, construction management plans and closure plans.
