Strategen secures first significant EPBC Act approval for Banksia Woodland

Removing complexity to make growth and development happen.

Strategen was pleased to work with Urban Quarter to achieve EPBC Act approval for their Eglinton residential and commercial development.

The project was one of the first to be identified as requiring assessment under the EPBC Act for the listed Threatened Ecological Community, Banksia Woodlands of the Swan Coastal Plain and is the first significant approval for the listed community.

Strategen has worked closely with the Department of Environment and Energy to achieve practical approaches to the assessment of Banksia Woodlands and identification of suitable offsets.

Through this process essential lessons have been learnt by both the Department and Strategen which can be applied to future assessments. The proposed on site retention, coupled with the identified offsets have achieved a balanced outcome that helps to secure the future of important areas of Banksia Woodlands and habitat for Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo.
